Medical imaging 2021.
In 2021 Medical imaging was located in one of the buildings constructed in the 1990s to provide the extra wards and facilities required by the Maitland Hospital.
In mid-January 2021 Catharine Neilson photographed some of the Medical Imaging staff on duty as well as views of the spaces and equipment in the unit. It was early in her commission to photograph the hospital in the last year of its operation on the Campbell’s Hill site.
She was drawn to the ways in which details of the equipment and the spaces offered suggestions of how staff had coupled modern technology with ways to soften the x-ray experience: colourful cartoon drawings on the wall, a welcoming skeleton figure on the entrance, multi-coloured protective clothing for staff.
