Executive suite 2020-2021.

In 2020-2021 the Maitland Hospital’s executive staff were located in the original 1849 building. They worked with the delights and challenges of being in spaces that, for the past 170 years, had been adapted and re-adapted for different uses.

As part of her commission to photograph the Maitland Hospital in its last years of operation on the Campbell’s Hill site, Catharine Neilson visited the Executive suite on different occasions. She photographed the staff at work, former General Manager Di Peers on her last day in the job, and many of the features that gave the building and spaces character and, at times, reminded that an old building can have its limits as a functioning work space.

More staff to photograph, more stories to hear, more details to see. Among them, Vionne Peacock, Medical Admin Manager, spoke about the many young doctors who have passed through the Maitland Hospital over the years. When new doctors started, she put a sticker on her map of the world to show where they came from, she had a wall of photographs, and she kept in touch with a number.

On her last visit to the old Maitland Hospital, Catharine Neilson paid a brief and final visit to the Executive Suite. She met Jonathan Gibson who had taken on Pooshan Navathe’s job as Director of Medical Services, and there were Christmas decorations and messages in the offices.
